Alfie

We Get The Call

When the alarm went off I thought it was going to be just another normal working day. I had no idea what an important day it would turn out to be. During my coffee break I phoned the contact on the puppy register, he told me about a litter of pups that would be available within about 5 weeks. I explained again that I was really not sure about wanting to take on a very young puppy as I have no real experience with pups, but I agreed to visit the breeder the following week.

I finished work and headed off to the gym for a lunchtime swim. My phone rang just as I was about to get out of the car, It was the man from the puppy register, he had remembered a conversation he had been having with a breeder at a show the previous weekend, she had told him that she was thinking about letting her two male dogs go. He had given her a call to see if she would be willing to let us have a look at the dogs. Much to my delight she had said we were welcome to go and see them. We arranged to go the following day.

It was a long drive of about 150 miles but we were so excited that the miles flew by. We were introduced to all the other dogs and puppies that the breeder had and then introduced to the two males that she was selling. One was a Black and Tan of about 15 months and the other a Blenhiem (Brown and White) which was 20 months which was Alfie. I fell in love at first sight, but tried very hard to not be biased and check out the qualities of both dogs. We decided that we really needed to take them for a walk and see how we felt.

The walk was a nightmare, both dogs pulled like trains, but both dogs seemed friendly and happy to be out and about. We passed a rottweiler in a neighbours garden and both dogs took no notice. We saw birds and cars, people and bikes and again no reaction from them, so we agreed that the choice would be a difficult one. Not really for me I had already fallen for my wonderful Alfie.

Cutting a very long story short we agreed we would like to adopt Alfie. So the deal was made, monies paid, papers signed and Alfie loaded into his crate in my car.
It took us more than 3 hours to drive home, we stopped so Alfie could go pee and stretch his legs for a bit. He was amazing, you would never of believed we had only had him a couple of hours, he settle straight back into his crate and off we went on our way home and on to Alfie's next big adventure................
